I had a nice visit to Hobo Hot Springs in Saratoga, WY. It was a clear, sunny day, the locals were friendly and the pools piping hot! I definitely didn’t last long, lol. When I took a shower didn’t mind a bit that the water was cold. 🙂
I planned to spend a night or two in the area as there was a high wind warning for I-80 with gusts up to 75 mph expected. No thank you!
Free RV parking just outside the hot springs
The large parking lot at the springs has a sign saying “No Overnight Camping”, or it may have said no overnight parking—you get the gist. So after I soaked a bit I drove out of the lot, took a right and there was a nice open area on the side of the road that was not in front of anyone’s home. Perfect!
The next day I wanted to be a little more protected from the wind so I drove through town and found the spot in the featured photo above. It was in front of a couple vacant cabins and I stayed three nights. I appreciated having the little gas station mini-mart to buy a hot dog and snacks when it was snowing outside.
Fun seeing the Mule deer that pass through town!
As I drove around I noticed two very large Mule deer lounging alongside a house—if you move to Saratoga you never know who your neighbors may be. 🙂
I took a photo but it wasn’t that great. It was cold and windy, I didn’t want to get too close and bother them.
Face-timing with my son on the phone I heard a loud rustle outside the trailer and the two deer were just outside, eating grass. I pointed the camera out the window: “Isn’t that cool!”
I should have gotten out and taken a photo, but it was super cold, just let them be and stayed warm and cozy inside with Tiger. 🙂
Free RV Camping at Pennock Mountain Wildlife Habitat
I saw the sign below as I drove through town and tried to check it out but after I made the turn it ended in an unmarked gravel road and was confusing so skipped it. But… I did call and ask about the camping afterwards.
There are four free dispersed camping areas, you can view the map on the Wyoming Fish and Game website here: Pennock Mountain. Have to enlarge it a bit, but you can see the little camping icons on the map. There is a 14 day stay limit, and it’s open to vehicles May 1st to November 14th.
I did make a comment to the gal I spoke with that I’m not sure it’s a great idea to camp where guns are being shot off and she replied: “You hope people are being careful.”
Yes, definitely would hope that!
WiFi in town is excellent
Of course. But I do not know if that coverage extends to the camping areas at Pennock Mountain.
