Free Overnight RV Parking at Myrtle Beach, SC

You know you’re in the South when you see restaurant signs advertising ‘Fish and Grits’—a first for me! Shrimp and grits is also very popular and thought to have originated in Charleston, South Carolina. Carolina’s official state snack is “boiled peanuts”. Be sure to try all three! Video

No Free RV Camping in Myrtle Beach, SC

There is no Free RV Camping in Myrtle Beach, SC that I discovered, but you can drive a few blocks away from the beach and find spots to park overnight in the residential area. At least I did! Most online resources will tell you to go to the Myrtle Beach Walmart or Cracker Barrel but it was a warm day and I didn’t want to roast in a parking lot.

Morning view as I drove out of town

I was willing to splurge and stay one night at Myrtle Beach State Park so I could relax, chill and enjoy the beach for the afternoon but when I tried to make a reservation found they have a ‘two night minimum stay’. No thank you.

Free RV Camping an hour away at Francis Marion National Forest

Francis Marion National Forest is less than an hour from Myrtle Beach and you can camp for free in their dispersed camping locations. I was just passing through the area quickly so didn’t check it out and make a video but it sounds wonderful.

Sumter National Forest sounds great as well, but it’s around three hours from Myrtle Beach. Sumter has free dispersed camping areas too, the link above has information on these locations for both forests.

Video of free overnight camping at Myrtle Beach, SC

I drove around to see if I felt comfortable parking anywhere and there were a lot of empty spaces to park an RV overnight, and not bother anyone. I was on my way to North Carolina to pick up my 2019 GeoPro 14FK travel trailer (is absolutely awesome) and car camping as I went.

I still would have parked at the spot in the video if I was towing a trailer, or one of many other areas on vacant streets around town. I did space out and say ‘North Carolina’ in video (it was early!). Please ignore that.

Of course there’s awesome cell service

It’s Myrtle Beach for goodness sakes! 🙂 I watched a movie, made phone calls etc. with my 5G iPhone and Verizon service.
